Riverside Regional Jail’s visiting area is a place where
families, friends and children are present. Therefore, attire
should be appropriate to this setting. Visitors may wear casual dress that
is appropriate. Visitors may be refused admittance if their
clothing is considered inappropriate.
If you have questions, call the lobby desk or refer to
the visitor pamphlet.
All visits will start on the hour, quarter after the hour and quarter to
the hour, unless the inmate has been approved for an extended and/or
special visit, or unless the visit is terminated for cause.
Inmates are permitted two (2) scheduled visits per
week:
§
All visitors and their personal effects are subject to
search as outlined in the
Code of Virginia § 53.1-1.
§
Visitors will be asked to remove all items from their
pockets and pass through a metal detector.
§ There will be no more than five (5) visitors visiting one
(1) inmate at any given time in the visiting area. No more than three (3)
of the five (5) visitors will be minors.
§ Intoxicated visitors or visitors who appear to be under the
influence will be denied access into the facility and may be subject to
arrest.
§ Children under the age of eighteen (18), must be accompanied
by a parent, legal guardian or responsible adult, who is listed on the
inmate approved visitor’s list.
§ All visitors with the exception of minors, must show a valid
picture identification that includes their date of birth.
§
Visitors without proper identification will not be permitted
to visit an inmate.
Visitors will adhere to the following rules and regulations:
§
Visitors will be assigned a visitation seat when they report
to the lobby staff.
§
The visitor will only be permitted to visit the inmate they
signed up to visit.
§
Visitors are required to have footwear on at all times.
There will be no bare feet allowed.
§
Visitors may refer to the visitor pamphlet for questions on appropriate
clothing for visits.
§
No visitors will smoke, drink or eat while in the visitation
area.
§ All visitors will refrain from using profanity during
visitation, as this may be disrespectful to others who are visiting.
§ All
children will remain under constant supervision and control while
visiting. No one under the age of 18, will be left
unattended at any time in the visitation or lobby areas or a vehicle. The
adult must ensure the child is not allowed to jump, climb, run freely, or play in the
visitation or lobby area.
The only items allowed when visiting are:
§
One diaper and one bottle for infants
§
If strollers are necessary, they will be searched
§
Clothing for court, if prior approval has been made, will be
accepted at the lobby desk
§
Money Orders and Cashiers Checks
§
Vehicle keys, and identification
Note: Visitors should limit items brought into the jail
during visitation.
The following items are NOT permitted in the visitation area,
or in any part of the jail, and should be left in your vehicle:
§
No cigarettes, tobacco products, lighters and/or matches
§ Any items considered to be a weapon, such as knives, kubatons,
guns, or any other items that look like, or could be used as a weapon
§
Photo/Video cameras and/or recording devices
§
Cell phones and pagers
§
Food and drinks
§
Do not bring the inmate letters, pictures, magazines, or
books
§
Do not bring purses or handbags, toys or coloring books, etc
Note: This list is not
all-inclusive; other items may be deemed inappropriate by the Watch
Commander
General Information:
§ Any
delivery, or attempt to deliver, contraband (drugs, alcohol, or other
unauthorized items) to an inmate will be prosecuted to the fullest extent
of the law.
§ If a fire alarm sounds during visitation, you will be
directed to evacuate the facility immediately. Please follow all
instructions given by the Officer for your safety.
§ Please
notify staff of any situations that have occurred during the visit that
may have upset the inmate, such as disagreements or delivery of bad news.
This request is so we may better provide for the safety and comfort of the
inmate.
§ Please
notify
staff of situations in which
they may have concern with safety or security, such as water spills or
restroom facilities that are not working properly.
§
Visitors are not to attempt to communicate with inmates when
entering and exiting the facility.
§
Visitors will not loiter in the parking lot or on the
premises.
§ Smoking is limited to the parking lot area only. No smoking
on the walkway, the stairs leading into the facility or inside the
facility.
§ Visitors must park on the right side of the parking lot
(facing the facility) which is designated for visitor parking.
§ All visitors will sit in their assigned seats. All visitors
must sit at the assigned visitor booth (given by the Lobby Staff) and
remain at the booth for the entire time of the visit.
Note: All rules included in these guidelines are
general. Further instructions given by staff must be followed at all
times.
*Any visitor who violates the jail's rules and regulations may have
their visitation immediately terminated. This action may restrict you
from future visitation privileges.
