Lieutenant Colonel Walter J. Minton

Assistant Superintendent

Tasked with designing and building one of the largest regional jails in the Commonwealth of Virginia, Superintendent Hodge began his search for a second-in-command. It didn't take him long to set his sights on the former Sheriff of Chesterfield County, Walter J. Minton.

Lieutenant Colonel Minton began his career with the Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office at the age of 21, rising through the ranks to become Jail Administrator at the age of 23 and later becoming one of the youngest Sheriffs in the history of Chesterfield County.

Years later Lt. Col. Minton would become the Superintendent of Piedmont Regional Jail in Farmville, VA. Having taken part in the initial conceptual planning of Riverside while Sheriff, Lt. Col. Minton kept his eye on RIverside's progression while at Piedmont and decided to join Superintendent Hodge to help Riverside develop and grow.
