Colonel Darnley R. Hodge, Sr., MS

Superintendent

During the late 1980's, the member jurisdictions of the Riverside Regional Jail Authority began planning what would become the Riverside Regional Jail. Paramount in these plans was the selection of the Superintendent of the proposed facility. A nation-wide search was conducted and a candidate was chosen from the Commonwealth of Virginia.

At the time, Darnley R. Hodge, Sr. was the Administrator of the Clark-Frederick-Winchester Regional Jail located in Frederick County, VA where he completed the planning, design, and construction of that facility. Colonel Hodge was well aware of the growing pains associated with building a correctional institution.

After exemplary service in the United States Army as a Military Police Investigator and as a Police Officer with the U.S. Virgin Islands Police Dept, Colonel Hodge earned his Master of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of New Haven in West Haven Connecticut in 1979. Joining the Alexandria Sheriff's Office in 1980, Colonel Hodge was promoted through the ranks to Sergeant and Lieutenant before departing to become Superintendent of the Clark-Frederick-Winchester Regional Jail in 1988.

Upon his selection as the new Superintendent of the Riverside Regional Jail in 1994, Colonel Hodge was responsible for the recruitment and training of all personnel for the planned facility. Opening it's doors in 1997, the Riverside Regional Jail, under the guidance of Colonel Hodge, has been awarded American Correctional Association (ACA) accreditation on four occasions as well as 100% compliance with the Virginia Board of Corrections Standards.
